Sports Massage / Injury Treatments

Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries.

Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively.

Each type of sport has different demands on the players. Each sport uses muscle groups in a different way. Sports massage is designed to address those specific concerns and may differ according to the sport the athlete plays.

Benefits of Sports Massage:

Physiological

  • Improves flexibility and range of motion
  • Improves circulation
  • Relieves muscle tension
  • Stimulates the immune system
  • Relieves chronic pain
Mental
  • Improves focus and concentration
  • Calms the mind
  • Creates a relaxed state of alertness

Strapping and Taping

These techniques can help prevent injury as well as protect the athlete from further injury whilst returning to sport. The role of taping is to limit the range of movement in an injured joint to prevent excess or abnormal movement. In addition it should prove supportive to the muscles surrounding the joint that may be under additional strain due to the injury.
